Selong Belanak, sunrise, and engines warming up — that’s how Day 2 of our Lombok Dirt Bike Adventure began. What followed was a rollercoaster of jungle tracks, hill climbs, scenic valleys, village encounters, waterfall chills, and that one perfect moment with a street musician in the heart of Mataram. This is not just a dirt bike tour — it’s a ride into the soul of Lombok.
Into the Wild Hills of East Lombok
As we left the soft sands of Selong Belanak behind, our wheels turned east — into the hills. The air was fresh, the light golden, and the trail? Raw, winding, and wildly beautiful. We cruised through paths surrounded by cornfields and rocky outcrops. At first glance, it looked like an easy ride — until one of us tipped over in a patch of loose gravel. A reminder: don’t underestimate Lombok’s terrain.
We came across a lone house nestled deep in the hills. A family lived there, far from the noise of the world. Kids waved at us. We waved back — and in that moment, it felt like time stood still.
Best Season Tip: After the Harvest
If you’re planning this route, here’s a local secret: go after harvest, during the planting season. The hills turn a vibrant green, trails are clearer, and the views? Absolutely cinematic. That’s when the ride becomes more than a trail — it becomes a journey through living landscapes.
Escaping the Heat: Jungle Tracks & Hidden Waterfalls
As the sun climbed higher, so did the heat. We decided to skip the open fields and head toward cooler terrain — thick forests and mountain springs near Mount Rinjani. That meant riding through jungle paths under a canopy of leaves, following streams and mud tracks toward the highlands.
We paused for fresh oranges by the roadside and laughed about our tumbles. Some loads felt heavy, but the spirit stayed light.
The Fountain of Youth: Janggot Waterfall

Then we reached Air Terjun Janggot — a hidden waterfall said by locals to be the source of eternal youth. And honestly? It felt magical. The water was icy fresh, drinkable straight from the fall. One of us took a dip, another washed their face. Smiles all around.
Into the Heart of Rinjani
From Janggot, we followed a long, flowing trail toward Danau Biru Tahura. This was the ride of the day. Wide tracks of compact earth rolled through rice paddies and misty forest. It was cool, green, and everything we hoped a trail could be. If you’re on a 250cc or even a 500cc, this trail is your playground.
We arrived at the Blue Lake. Two rivers met here — one warm, one cold — creating a surreal mix of temperatures. Step in, and the water feels like it’s shifting between seasons. It was peaceful, almost sacred.
Rain, Coffee, and the Gate to Rinjani
As we reached the Rinjani trekking gate, the rain finally caught us. But we didn’t mind. We parked the bikes, grabbed lunch, sipped hot coffee, and listened to the rain hit the roof of the warung.
A Musical Night in Mataram
We rode into Mataram as the sky turned orange. The streets buzzed softly. We checked into Hotel Kartika, dropped our gear, and went out for dinner. Then it happened.
A street musician with nothing but his voice and an old guitar played a melody so haunting, we stopped in our tracks.
